PowerEdge Naming Scheme
Older Dell PowerEdge (prior to the 10th generation) are named with a 4 digit number. The numbers correspond to:
First Digit | Height of the server |
Second Digit | Generation (0 through 9) |
Third Digit | Server Type (0 - tower, 5 - rack) |
Fourth Digit | Standalone (0) / Blade (5) |
Later Dell PowerEdge (generation 10 and later) are named with a letter and a 3 digit number.
Letter | R - rack-mountable, M - modular, T - tower |
First Digit | # of CPU Sockets (1-3: 1, 4-7: 2, 9: 4, 8: 2 or 4) |
Second Digit | Generation (starting from 0 as generation 10) |
Third Digit | CPU Type: 0 - Intel, 5 - AMD |
The newer naming scheme does not include the height of the server.
