Realtek sound cuts or disappears randomly[edit | edit source]

It appears that the realtek driver or the onboard realtek chip has some glitch where it believes that a new audio device is plugged in which causes the default sound device to change, causing applications like Winamp to cut audio completely until it is restarted.

The solution to this is to disable all other output audio devices (like digial out) and to disable the popup dialog in the realtek configuration panel(Control Panel -> Realtek HD Audio Manager -> Click on the folder icon on the right side of the window -> Select "Disable auto popup dialog when device has been plugged in")
