Java Applets in 2017

Getting java applets working in 2017 sucks. You really shouldn't be using java applets for anything (or java applications on a desktop for that matter), but there are some use cases that can't be worked around.

To get Java applets working on 64bit Windows 7, you need to get the 32bit version of Java. Downloading and installing the 64bit version will not get you anywhere.

Firefox versions after 52 drops support for NPAPI extensions, so you must use Firefox 52 ESR.
